In the heart of the Natural Park of The South West Alentejo and Vicentine Coast (southwest of Portugal) the house is located in the dunes of Bordeira beach (300m) and 1km from the village of Carrapateira.
The house is a beautiful and unique earth building, made with all natural materials. The original owners were inspired by a commitment to environmental awareness and they wanted to make use of the local clay soils in the region which make this kind of building possible. This incredible earth based technology creates low environmental impact and an excellent indoor atmosphere during both warm and cold months. The thick walls (60cm) keep away the warmth of hot days in summer and the cold in winter. The high ceilings inclined in wood have good thermal insulation and also create a welcoming atmosphere.
The house is divided between my residence, the guesthouse accommodation, and the communal living room/dining area. Although it is all within the same building, these areas are independent and have an intention to create a place of quiet retreat and sanctuary space.
The sound of the waves gentle lull you to sleep
